Book review - Front Desk by Kelly Yang

Mia Tang, a Chinese immigrant, moves to the US with her family. As her family searches for a job, they see an ad in the newspaper for an experienced motel manager.

Her family thinks it is a good job and they go to meet the motel owner, Mr. Michael Yao. He tells them that he will give $150 per night and free rent. Mia and her family know that it is an amazing deal and immediately sign up.

Their daily customers appreciate her but say that Mr. Yao has a 'coal of a heart'. Mia doesn't get what they mean.

Mia takes the job at the Front Desk while her parents clean the rooms. Her parents think she's too young and objects, but Mia wanted to continue.

Image result for front desk bookOne day when Mr Stein from Room 6 asked for a wake-up call, she called another customer by mistake. She had to give them both refunds. Mr Yao told Mia's family to pay for those refunds.

The next week, Mia started school. She realized that Mr. Yao's son, Jason was also in her class. When it was time for introductions, Mia didn't tell anyone that she worked in a motel because of the weird look on Jason's face.

Mia realized that Room 9's key was missing. So, she made a duplicate of the spare key and cut her finger.

The book Front Desk is Mia's story - her problems and solutions.

It is a very nice book written by Kelly Yang, in a simple way. This is a thick book recommended for 9+. I love this book giving it a 9/10.

It is there on Amazon.

Trip to Genting Highlands, Malaysia

On a school excursion, I  went to Genting Highlands from 23rd of September to 25th of September, 2 nights and 3 days. My school, Global Indian International School were taking us by coach. DAY 1 We had to reach school at 6 am in the morning. We left from school at 7. The ride was quite smooth. We did immigration at Tuas checkpoint. As soon as you do immigration you're in Johor. As Singapore is an island, it is separated from Malaysia. So, there  had to be a bridge connecting these both. On the bridge to enter Malaysia, there was heavy traffic. We had to wait for about 40 minutes to reach across in Malaysia. Later after doing a security baggage check in the Malaysian checkpoint, we had to board another bus.  After boarding into another bus, five minutes later, we went to a B&B which is a breakfast place and a shop. I  bought few items there. The items were very cheap there as compared to Singapore. But, I didn't buy any breakfast there. In Genting we we...
