City Palace, Udaipur

CITY PALACE
BEST TO VIEW ON A COMPUTER

City Palace is one of the main highlights of Udaipur. It is the main palace where the king used to stay. It took about 400 years to build this palace. Its construction started in 1553 by Maharana Udai Singh ll. It is built on top of a hill.

WELCOMING ELEPHANT
The entrance had a huge elephant statue, beautifully decorated to 'Wow' people in the beginning. The palace looked very scenic from the outside. Just seeing this blew my mind. On the way to the City Palace museum, there were some wall art painted of Maharana Pratap on Chetak.

When Maharana Udai Singh ll fled from Akbar, he came to Udaipur and stayed in this palace.

WEAPONRY
The first things I saw when I entered the museum was Maharana Pratap's armor. There was that metallic suit that he wore during the Battle of Haldighati. (Check that out here). There were also some of his swords and weapons.

CHETAK WITH ELEPHANT MASK
There was also a painting depicting the whole Battle of Haldighati in this museum. I loved this painting (Description in the above link). This was displayed around his huge courtyard.

They also had a 3-D model of Chetak with his elephant mask (used in the war). There were fan-shaped windows with views of Lake Pichola, Lake Palace and the mountains far away. This was part of the ventilation room.

PICHOLA
VENTILATION ROOM
There was a place with an empty seat, depicting when Maharana Pratap did not attend the meeting of kings. This was because he did not want to be friends with them.

The second courtyard of the City Palace had a good location for you to take portraits with the historical background. There was also a mini fountain in the courtyard.

They showcased the first library of the king and some ivory doors kept inside.

Moti Mahal was kept which was literary a chair in the middle of a colorful room. Each window in the room was decorated with a certain color.

DECORATIVE MIRRORS
WEIGHING SCALE
There was one of those huge manual fans that the king's soldiers waved for him. They had a big place where the king would stand and address the gathering.

There was an interesting thing - a weighing scale in which the king would sit on a swing like structure. A design of peacocks were made on the final courtyard.

Lastly, there was the Manek Mahal.

The City Palace was a beauty and very enjoyable.

  1. Nice article but one clarification.

I didn't take 400 years to build, but every king has kept adding to it over the past 409 years. In fact we saw some new sections under construction.

Trip to Genting Highlands, Malaysia

On a school excursion, I  went to Genting Highlands from 23rd of September to 25th of September, 2 nights and 3 days. My school, Global Indian International School were taking us by coach. DAY 1 We had to reach school at 6 am in the morning. We left from school at 7. The ride was quite smooth. We did immigration at Tuas checkpoint. As soon as you do immigration you're in Johor. As Singapore is an island, it is separated from Malaysia. So, there  had to be a bridge connecting these both. On the bridge to enter Malaysia, there was heavy traffic. We had to wait for about 40 minutes to reach across in Malaysia. Later after doing a security baggage check in the Malaysian checkpoint, we had to board another bus.  After boarding into another bus, five minutes later, we went to a B&B which is a breakfast place and a shop. I  bought few items there. The items were very cheap there as compared to Singapore. But, I didn't buy any breakfast there. In Genting we we...

HALDIGHATI The Battle of Haldighati took place on 18 June 1576 between Maharana Pratap and Mughal emperor Akbar's representative, Man Singh I. The Mughals were victorious but did not manage to capture Maharana Pratap as he fled away. The Mughals captured Chittorgarh. Meanwhile, Maharana Pratap headed to Kumbalgarh near modern-day Udaipur. He made his base over there. PAINTING DEPICTING BATTLE OF HALDIGHATI In this battle, Pratap's horse, Chetak died after climbing up on Man Singh's elephant where Chetak's hind leg was injured.
