June Trip to India

Hi guys! Let me get this clear - this is not a Fact File, but a travel blog of myself. I went to India during my June holidays and let me share it with you. I didn't go touring this time unlike last December (to view that blog post click here)

DAY 1 (6 June 2019)

It was the first day. I got up at 6:30 AM to attend my 10:00 AM flight. Much to my dismay, the flight was postponed to 11:45 AM. I woke up too early! I left home at 8:20 to Changi Airport Terminal 2. My flight was operated by Silkair (MI 436) to Chennai.

As I arrived at Terminal 2 and finished check-in and immigration, I wanted to take the Skytrain, through the newly built shopping centre, Jewel Changi.

I trusted my instincts and took the Skytrain to Terminal 1, where I thought the Skytrain would go through Jewel, but it didn't. After I reached Terminal 1, I realized I should have taken the Skytrain to Terminal 3 instead. I started to get hungry when I reached Terminal 1 so I walked a long way through the terminal and reached Burger King, where I ate an Egg & Cheese Croissant-which.

Then, Krispy Kreme doughnuts were at Terminal 3, so I took a Skytrain there to eat there. After that, and getting something from the medicine store, I needed to go back to Terminal 2. I was 100% sure that this time, I would go through Jewel Changi. And I was right!

You may be thinking, how I had so much time to visit all three terminals; waiting for the Skytrain, going on the Skytrain, etc. Well, this comes back to the efficiency of the Singapore Changi Airport. (To know more about Changi Airport, click on this.)

The attendants of the flight announced that the delay was due to the previous incoming flight. I was very annoyed. At least the flight scheduled at 11:45 departed on time. The flight was a B737-800, a very old aircraft. The aircraft did not have a TV system, but there was only a centralised TV.

There were 12 Business Class seats in the front (no TV too) and 150 Economy Class seats. The Business Class seats were arranged in a 2-2 formation and Economy Class were in a 3-3.

I had pre-ordered the food as Vegetarian Lacto-Ovo. I got pasta with sauce, beans and vegetables, fruits and bread (like everyone else). The meal was nice. The flight was overall good. I landed in Chennai at 1:25 PM (It was supposed to be 11:30 AM before).

I completed the immigration and baggage claim. Then I booked an Uber to my house in Mylapore and met my cousin Dhruv & his family, and my grandparents. (Dhruv is who I did the Fact File with. Click here to know about Fact File or go to my home page and search for Fact File in the top right.

I spent time talking with them until the evening where I went out for dinner. The others and I went to the New Woodlands Hotel, where we ate at the Vrindavan Restaurant. I shared a Macaroni Aggratin (a dish with macaroni and cheese mixed together given with a side of garlic bread) and Corn Cheese Balls. Both of them were too amazing to describe.

After I went home, I continued watching and talking until I went to sleep.

DAY 2 (7 June 2019)

It was the first day waking up in Chennai at the grandparents' house. I had a good nights rest. I had my breakfast and played with my cousins. After lunch, at about 4 pm, my cousin and I went to Starmark, a bookstore in the Express Avenue Mall.

I bought a Tinkle double-digest and another book called The Secret Sanctuary by Stephen Alter. I paid 320 Rupees as my total amount. Later, I went to a gelato place and had a dark chocolate gelato.

I didn't do much back at home - the CWC (Cricket World Cup) match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka was cancelled.

DAY 3 - 7 (8 - 12 June 2019)

On the third day of my trip, I only stayed at home and played. I did not go out. I watched the Cricket World Cup in which many games got cancelled, but during the India vs Australia match, India was victorious. This is what I did during most of the days. My cousins left on 10 June (Monday)

DAY 8 (13 June 2019)

Today, in the morning my parents were out so I didn't go anywhere. But in the evening, about 5, I went to the Tulika bookshop on TT Krishnamachari road. It was a newer Tulika bookstore, that was only open for a year. I had been to an old one a long time ago (even before I started blogging). But I don't remember it now.

In the bookstore, I bought two books, The Forbidden Forest, and its sequel - Trouble in the Forbidden Forest. They were for about 135 Rupees each and were by the author Kay S. Everything else was normal.

DAY 9 (14 June 2019)

Today, it was my sister's 18th birthday. I had to go to the R.S Eye Clinic and Laser Centre for a checkup. Then my dad came by an Indigo flight to Chennai to meet up with my family.

My dad and I went to Bata on TTK road, but nothing was there so I went to another Bata in which nothing much was there either. The trip wasn't a waste as we had to go to get a Vodafone sim card.

For a special dinner (the birthday), my whole family and I went to Cream Centre, a really good restaurant. I had corn cheese balls, an orange ice cream soda and shared a Mexican sizzler. It was really good. My grandfather treated all of us.

DAY 10 (15 June 2019)

Today, we went out. My mom, being an author had to attend a storytelling session where she read her book, The Clever Tailor. (View The Clever Tailor on Google Books by clicking here). So, I had to go to the Odyssey bookstore in Adyar. It was a big bookstore and a lot of children were present. It was very entertaining.

I came back home for lunch and then went to Pheonix Market City for a story-making workshop in the Starmark bookshop. I did not stay for the workshop but I went around the mall. For a snack, I went to the Cha Republic store and ordered a Hong Kong milk tea with pearls.

I came back home and didn't do much later.

DAY 11 (16 June 2019)

I went to the Express Avenue Mall today. I first went to H&M and bought a blue coloured shirt (with a collar). It had surfboards on it. It cost 799 Rupees. I stopped at the food court for lunch and had Taco Bell. I have been to Taco Bell in the US but not in India. I ordered a Mexican Pizza and a Taco.

The taco was spicy even though I ordered mild sauce. There was a huge difference - this taco had paneer (cottage cheese) and kidney beans. The Mexican Pizza tasted the same but was VERY good.

After lunch, I went to Starmark (again) to look at some books, but I didn't purchase anything. After that, and some more looking around, I went back home by auto.

I ordered Dominos pizza for dinner and had Farm House pizza with Cheese Burst crust. It was legendary!!

DAY 12 (17 June 2019)

Today, I went to the Surya Sweets, an Indian sweet shop where I bought Cashew rolls, Gulab jamun, and more! The store also had different types of vegetables and some drinks along with ice-creams to chill from the hot summer. I packed a lot today.

DAY 13 (18 June 2019)

Today, I left for Mumbai. My flight was at 1:40 PM so I left at about 10:30. I was flying Go Air. It took about 40 minutes to reach in the Uber XL (a Chevrolet Tavera). The check-in queue had no wait. We had to X-ray our check-in our baggage before we had actually checked-in. The stall for that had not been set up yet so we had to wait for about 15 minutes.

After the check-in and security check (no immigration because it's domestic remember?) we walked to Pizza Hut to have an early lunch (I had a bit of Veggie Feast and Double Mozzarella) and it was GREAT and AMAZING!

The flight number was G8 304 and it was an Airbus A320 which had a 3-3 formation. They did not have any screens. There were also some Business class seats in the front.

The flight was on time and I bought some Paper Boat Aamras on the flight. It was very refreshing. There was something cool I want to share with you. Go Air was founded by the Aditya Birla group who also created the company, Brittania. For the food on the flight, they had most of Brittania items which was cool (Paper Boat is not owned by them).

The landing was also on time and I liked the entrance of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Domestic Airport. I then booked an Uber XL back to my home in Navi Mumbai. I reached home at about 6 (it was a 1h30min drive). I came home and just relaxed.

DAY 14 (19 June 2019)

I did not do anything in the morning but in the evening I went to the Seawoods Grand Central Mall. I went to pantaloons (I got a shirt there), Westside and lifestyle. I also went to Big Bazaar to shop for food. I got items like biscuits and juices to have during my stay.

I ordered a McDonalds delivery for dinner (the first time during this trip). I had a McVeggie burger. It was really good! I also ordered some fries to have on the side.

DAY 15 (20 June 2019)

I didn't do much today.

DAY 16 (21 June 2019)

Directing lines to go to specific areas of the hospital

I went to D-Mart to buy a few things to have here and to take back to Singapore. I found some interesting juices like Masala Pomegranate and Masala Guava! That seemed very weird to me! (I obviously didn't by that).

In the evening, I went to Apollo Hospitals just for a routine check-up for my grandma. It was a nice auto ride there, and back. I didn't do anything else.

DAY 17 (22 June 2019)

In exactly one week, we were going back to Singapore!

I went to the city side today (central Mumbai). I first went to Kahaani Tree to look at the storytelling performance. Then, I went to the Nehru Planetarium. It was very nice and we sat and watched a half-hour show about space.

I then went to a place called A Rama Nayak & Sons, to have lunch. Our lunch was late - after 3 o'clock. I came back home to watch the India vs Pakistan cricket match. India emerged victorious.

DAY 18 (23 June 2019)

I didn't do anything much today. I only went to the nearby shops.

DAY 19 (24 June 2019)

I went back to Apollo Hospitals just to collect the follow-up report.

In the evening, I went to Inorbit Mall. I went to Max (a clothes store), Bata and Hyper City. For dinner, I had McDonald's again (it was so good!). I bought a McVeggie, a fries and coke float (a meal). I bought food to take home from Hyper City. I didn't buy anything from Bata but I got two t-shirts from Max.

DAY 20 & 21 (25 & 26 June 2019)

Nothing much done today. Just watched the Cricket World Cup matches.

DAY 22 (27 June 2019)

In the afternoon, I went and visited my old school - Podar International School in the Seawoods region of Navi Mumbai. It was also nice to see some old teachers who were still there.

At about 7 pm, I left in a Uber XL to the airport. My flight was in the international terminal, and I was flying by Singapore Airlines. The flight number was SQ 425.

After completing check-in, security and immigration, I went to the food area and had a burger and some fries from Burger King. The burger was called BK Veggie and I had cheesy fries on the side.

The flight departed on time. We were given hot towels as usual on Singapore Airlines. The food was also very nice - we were given some kind of pasta with some vegetables. I got to sleep for one hour on the 5.5-hour flight.

DAY 23 (28 June 2019)

I landed back in Singapore at 6:30 Singapore time. The flight was very nice. After going home, I was really tired so I slept for 2 hours.

AND MY VACATION ENDED HERE.

Book review - The Eyes Of The Eagle by Ruskin Bond

THE EYES OF THE EAGLE Jai was grazing his sheep in the Tung meadows when he heard the loud, echoing call of a Golden Eagle. He gathered four sheep together to send them inside. But, where was his fifth one? The Golden Eagle had taken it. When this happened he reported it to his grandfather. Grandfather wasn’t very sad at all. He said that this was sure to happen someday. For protection, his grandfather gave him a stick. The Eyes Of The Eagle He later noticed, that the Golden Eagle had also clawed Motu, Jai’s dog. Motu was bleeding quite a bit. Jai wrapped his handkerchief around Jai’s leg and carried him to grandfather’s house. Can Jai use the stick to prevent the Golden Eagle from taking more sheep? Read the book to find out! This book is for people aged 7+. I rate it 9/10 as it is written very well and the illustrations are very beautiful. I like that he is not afraid of the Eagle.
