THE BATTLEBOX

On the 24th of March, I visited a museum, The Battlebox, in Singapore. It was a museum about the World War II in Singapore. A description about the museum: In the 1300s, Malay kings set up their palaces on top of the hills as it was easier to defend and attack. Others were not allowed to use this hill. Thus, the Fort Canning Park Hill (where The Battlebox is) was called the Forbidden Hill. In 1819, the British arrived and set up a port. In 1861, the British built a fort and this is why the hill is called Fort Canning Hill. In 1936, the British decided to build an underground bunker which was eventually called The Battlebox. On 8 December 1941, Japan led by Yamashita, invaded Malaya. He pushed the teamed British, Australians and Indians back to Singapore. Japan had air and water control and so the only way to fight was on land. Japan had a lot of tanks but the British didn't have a single one. Outing to Singapore Sports Museum

On the 22nd of March, I went to the Singapore Sports Museum. I took the East West line and Circle line by train to the Stadium station to reach the place. I had to pay a $5 fee to enter. The Visitor Center (place where I bought the ticket) was big and spacious.  There was a Hall of Fame on which the Singaporean athletes' names were written. It was nicely decorated.  There also were pillars which showed the specific place in the past and the present. I enjoyed this as I got to see the places I visit to today, in the past. There was a section in the museum for every sport. For swimming, they had even kept a pair of an athlete's swimming trunks! A badminton player, Wong Peng Soon had some special spoon medals which looked unique. I never knew that there was something called a 'spoon' medal! The museum had also kept turnstiles of the previous National Stadium which were really cool. There was every FIFA World Cup Ball since

NEWS REPORT

On the 10th of March 2019, Ethiopian Airlines 302 from Addis Ababa to Nairobi, crashed 6 minutes after take-off and killed all 157 people on board. The aircraft was a brand new Boeing 737 Max 8.  The same aircraft crashed in Indonesia in October 2018. Lion Air 737 Max 8 had killed 189. As this was the second time, some countries like Singapore, grounded the taking off and landing of any variation of the 737 Max.  Ethiopian Airlines CEO visits crash site Boeing said that it was safe and others kept flying the Max 8. There was a huge crater created at the crash site. Boeing said they were "deeply saddened" because of this situation. It was a very saddening situation and it meant a lot to people all over the world.
