Book review - The Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis

Parvana, a sixth grade student, lived in Afghanistan with her family. All girls and women were not allowed to go outside the house or go to school. This was a strict rule made by the Taliban, the people ruling Afghanistan.

Her family consisted of her father, her mother, elder sister Nooria, younger sister Maryam and younger brother Ali. Her father gets arrested for having books in the house and having a foreign education.

The Breadwinner
Her father was the only one who could earn money in the family as he is the only one who could go outside. How could her family earn money? Mrs. Weera, her mother's friend, had come to help them to settle down. All of them were very scared without him.

Their previous houses had been bombed because of the war. Each time their house was bombed, they moved into a smaller house and lost a lot of things. They lived in a small room.

Parvana and her mother decide to change Parvana into a boy to earn some money for her family. She will become the breadwinner for her family and herself. People look at her a lot but do not notice that she is a girl. Can she help her family? Read the book to find out!

I rate this book 9/10. The age group of this book is 10+. I like the part where she meets her friend Shauzia, who also has turned herself into a boy.

Trip to Genting Highlands, Malaysia

On a school excursion, I  went to Genting Highlands from 23rd of September to 25th of September, 2 nights and 3 days. My school, Global Indian International School were taking us by coach. DAY 1 We had to reach school at 6 am in the morning. We left from school at 7. The ride was quite smooth. We did immigration at Tuas checkpoint. As soon as you do immigration you're in Johor. As Singapore is an island, it is separated from Malaysia. So, there  had to be a bridge connecting these both. On the bridge to enter Malaysia, there was heavy traffic. We had to wait for about 40 minutes to reach across in Malaysia. Later after doing a security baggage check in the Malaysian checkpoint, we had to board another bus.  After boarding into another bus, five minutes later, we went to a B&B which is a breakfast place and a shop. I  bought few items there. The items were very cheap there as compared to Singapore. But, I didn't buy any breakfast there. In Genting we we...
