LOCATION OF SINGAPORE
Singapore is an island in South-East Asia. Its geographical location is 1.22O N and 103.48O E. It is located between the countries of Indonesia and Malaysia. The total area of Singapore is 647.5 sq km². It’s highest point is 166 m above sea level.
GOVERNMENT OF SINGAPORE
Singapore acquired its independence on August 9, 1965. The current president of Singapore is Halimah Yacob and the prime minister is Lee Hsien Loong. Late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, the first prime minister of Singapore died in 2015.
Yusof Bin Ishak, the first president of Singapore is the man on all Singaporean banknotes. The currency of Singapore is the Singaporean dollar.
PLACES TO VISIT IN SINGAPORE
Some amazing places to visit in Singapore are-
Marina Bay Sands - Marina Bay Sands is a resort, which consists of a 2561 room hotel, casino and a shopping centre. It was built on February 17, 2011. On the top of the building is the 340m long Skypark which consists of the Infinity pool and the entire view of Singapore can be seen from there. It holds the most expensive standalone casino property at $8 billion.
Singapore Flyer - The Singapore Flyer is a giant Ferris wheel which opened in 2008 and took about 2.5 years to build. It has an overall height of 165 metres. You can get a good view of Singapore from here.
Gardens by the Bay - Gardens by the Bay is a nature park. The park has Bay South Garden, Bay East Garden and Bay Central Garden. The largest of the gardens is Bay South Garden at 54 hectares. The park is huge, colourful, and all of the tourists love it. Its size is 250 acres. It was completed on 29 June 2012.
Night Safari - The Night Safari is the world's first nocturnal zoo and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Singapore. It is divided into seven geographical zones, which can be explored either on foot via four walking trails, or by tram. It has exhibits such as Fishing Cat Trail, Leopard Trail, Indo Malayan Region, etc. It was made on May 26, 1994.
Sentosa - Sentosa is an island resort off Singapore’s southern coast, connected to the city by road, cable car, pedestrian boardwalk and monorail. By Sentosa Station, Tiger Sky Tower has panoramic views that can stretch as far as Indonesia. On the south coast, Palawan Beach is lined with food stalls and bars and has a suspension bridge to a small offshore island. Its area is 1.819 mi² and its population is 1690.
The Battlebox - The Battle Box is the popular name of the Fort Canning Bunker, also known as, Headquarters Malaya Command Operations Bunker. It was constructed as an emergency, bomb-proof command centre during the Battle of Singapore. It was built in 1936. It is known as the #1 Museum of Singapore. Art Science Museum - The Art Science Museum is a museum located within the integrated resort of Marina Bay Sands in the Downtown Core of the Central Area in Singapore. Opened on 17 February 2011 by Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, it is the world's first Art Science museum.
Singapore Changi Airport - The Singapore Changi Airport is known to be the best airport in the world by SKYTRAX. It is home of Singapore Airlines (best airline in the world by SKYTRAX), Silk Air and Scoot. The Jewel Terminal is also a part of the Changi Airport which has unique shops like a Pokemon centre and an A&W Store.
LANGUAGE AND RELIGION
There are many types of languages in Singapore. The main ones are English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil.
The different religions in Singapore are Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Christianity, and Taoism.
